The California Kid

The California Kid, finished on 4-19-09. This Hotrod knife is a ’34 Ford profile and uses damascus steel for the nearly 5” blade. The frame and spacer are all tool steel with hot gun blue finishes. The blade is spring fired by pushing down on the polished headers. The wheels and body are both made from micarta. The flames are painted with acrylic paint and sealed with a clear coat finish. A black Hotrod with three deuces and a flamed paint job….is this America or what?

front engine dragster

Recently finished front engine dragster folding knife. This knife uses raindrop pattern damascus steel for the blade, which on this piece which is shaped to look like the smoke coming off the dragsters slicks. The body was forged from O-1 tool steel, then buffed, polished and heat colored. The blade is locked open via a titanium liner lock. This knife will fire a #11 percusion cap if you load it and snap it open. Yes, it is loud, just like a real dragster.

I am posting photos of a just completed folding knife. The name of this one of a kind hotrod knife is Jalopy. It is also the loudest knife on the planet. I have built the knife so that a #10 blackpowder cap can be fired when you flip it open hard. Loud? Outrageous? maybe a little over the top? Hell, yes.

vital statistics……

11” long, opened

6 1/2” closed

blade is ATS-34 Stainless, .156 thick, double hollow ground.

liner and spacer materials is 1095 tool steel with a browned finish. the body is micarta under many coats of paint and primer to achieve the correct Jalopy look. The headers, valve covers and scoop are all stainless. Wheels are made of micarta.
